Workshops For Actors

What We Do

Casting Workshops create learning opportunities for Spotlight registered adult Actors in the U.K. to help develop their craft and to better understand the audition process in order to aid their personal development and techniques for securing work. By working with leading industry figures to develop script analysis skills, normalising the process of learning sides and improving self-confidence, actors can feel more prepared to grab the opportunities that come their way.

We offer informative sessions where you walk away, not only having learnt something, but feeling like you're being an active participant in a sometimes difficult and isolating profession. As actors ourselves, we promise to always do this for a reasonable cost and no joining fees.

The Sessions

Every session works slightly differently but the basic format consists of an introduction from the workshop leader, followed by individual scene work as a group, which will be followed by personal feedback and redirection ideas. Sessions end with an informal Q&A as a group.

Why do we do this?

Success as an actor is about talent, but it's also a huge test of persistence and self belief. We think there's no better way to build on these things than in a collaborative, supportive environment. If you're looking for career advice we'll also try to do what we can to help and guide you. Our workshops are about you, so please contact us with your suggestions.

Previous Sessions

We've run sessions with many industry professionals including Casting Directors, TV Directors and Theatre Directors. These have included:

Ginny Schiller, Lauren Evans, Seth Mason, Jeremy Herrin, Michael Longhurst, Rowland Beckley, Mark Everest, Jonathan East, Ben Marks, Gemma Sykes, Rachel Sheridan, Nicky Bligh, Stephen Unwin, Lucy Amos, Clare Harlow, Daniel Edwards, Martin Ware and many more...

Who are we?

Casting Workshops was started in 2007 by Casting Director Annelie Powell.

In 2012 the company was taken over by actors Oliver Powell & Emily Chase, who shared Annelie's passion for offering actors the opportunity to learn and develop both their craft and industry knowledge. Ollie and Emily have been working in the industry for over 15 years each in careers that span not only acting but now also writing and producing.

Workshops are educational and should not be considered a job interview or audition. Attending workshops is not a way to obtain employment as an actor. The presence of a Casting Director is neither a guarantee nor a promise of employment. Contact with a Casting Director at a workshop rarely results in any further contact with that Casting Director or any company affiliated with that Casting Director.

As part of our commitment to supplying actors with educational and ethical workshops at an affordable cost and because many CDG (Casting Director's Guild) members have led workshops with us, we like to ensure our sessions are in line with their guidelines.
